The elements of successful photo recovery
The key to successful digital photo recovery is to make sure you purchase an image recovery program that will recognize all of the commonly used digital photo file types. It is really not sufficient to attempt to recover digital photos using a general purpose file recovery program. The reason for this is very simple. When you download digital photos from your camera or its memory card, the software usually converts your photographs into a popular image format such as a JPEG or JPG. As long as the transfer of information goes correctly, almost any data recovery program can be used to scan through your hard drive and locate these file types.
But when you discover after the download that many of your image files did not transfer or that major portions of those digital photographs are corrupted and hence grayed out, you must return to your digital camera’s storage and scan that media for the original file information. In most cameras this file information is stored using their proprietary format known as a RAW file. In order to recover these files you must purchase a program that specifically addresses the ability to find and recover them.
